Head of fisheries board retires

Eamon Cusack, chief executive officer of the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board, has retired from his position after 33 years service in the inland fisheries sector.

He started his career with the Drogheda District of the Board of Conservators in 1977. However, following the restructuring of the Inland Fisheries service in 1980, he was promoted to inspector with the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board.
After 15 years in Dublin, he moved to Limerick as chief executive officer of the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board in 1992, then based in Thomond Weir.
At a recent function in the Clarion Hotel, Limerick to mark his departure from the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board, friends and colleagues from all sectors of fisheries paid tribute to Eamon’s contribution to inland fisheries and its management.
Highlights of Eamon’s career were his ability to work with stakeholders in the region, who were well represented from the commercial, angling, State and semi-State sectors. His promotion of angling and environmental awareness amongst school children and the wider public was also highlighted and commended.
