Hard-earned victory for Moher Celtic

MOHER Celtic kept up their challenge for first-division honours with this hard-earned victory over Newmarket Celtic B at McDonogh Park on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors got the vital breakthrough midway through the second period. Johnnie Daly, whose first-half effort rebounded off the post, put in the cross which saw Willie Murphy fire home what roved to be the winning score.

In the closing quarter, Newmarket piled on the pressure but Shane Keane in the visitors’ goal produced some impressive saves.

A DRAW was a fair result in this first division league game at Corofin on Sunday. The conditions were tough for both teams but there was no lacking in effort. Pádraig Talty and Eoin Enright went close for Inch in the first half and Corofin’s best effort was a header that went over the bar.

James Rynne went close again for Inch early in the second half when his shot went over the bar from inside the box. Corofin went in front midway through the second half when Damien Ryan finished well to the right corner after a good break from the back.

Inch earned a deserved share of the spoils with six minutes remaining when Rory Killeen got on the end of a Brian McDonnell cross to score.
