Handy haulage option launched in West Clare

Raymond Crowley from Breaffa, Kilrush, is one of the people spearheading a new website, handyhaulage.ie, which has been established as an option to collect or move items in Ireland. Raymond works in the construction trade and thought of the idea when driving to and from Dublin recently.

“I normally go in the morning but I was going up later that day. There was a lot of traffic on the road and I spotted a rake of empty trucks coming down. Then, when I turned above at the port in Dublin and came back down, I saw the same thing; a rake of empty trucks going up. When I got home I rang Tara O’Neill and asked her how would I go about setting up a website,” he explained.
Ms O’Neill from Doonbeg is the IT consultant in the venture.
Mr Crowley said the website is aimed at people who may have bought an item and want it brought to their house anywhere in Ireland.
“That’s who we’re aiming for; the ordinary person. We’re not looking for big companies that need stuff moved. What we’re aiming for is someone who buys something but has no way of getting it picked up,” he said.
Discovering if a haulier or a courier company are travelling the route relevant to the individual who needs an item collected, is straightforward.
“Say if you bought something in Dublin and you want it brought to Clare, you log on and you do the routes. You could be lucky and there could be someone going from Dublin to Clare in the next few days. If not, you log on and add your item and say when it has to be collected.
“Then if I’m a haulier and am going to Dublin, I can log on and say ‘I’ll ring that person’. If you’ve time, a couple of hauliers or couriers might contact you. So you’re getting a better price out of it,” Mr Crowley stated.
The website is now live and registration and use is free until September.
