Guilfoyle tops at Riverlodge four-miler


THE annual Riverlodge Health and Fitness Club four-mile race in Ennis on Sunday was a huge success with almost 200 competitors starting. Frank Landy (Ennis Track) went through the mile mark in 5:11 with a group of three following him. John Hannon (BMOH), Thomas Grimes (East London Runners) and Colm Daly (Ennis Track) were moving closer with every stride as they made their way towards the two-mile mark in 11:20.

As they made their way past the Lees Road Sports Complex, Thomas Grimes hit the front. He held that slight lead all the way to the finish line, which he crossed in 22:38 with John Hannon following in 23mins followed in third by Colm Daly in 23:09 with the early leader Frank Landy next in 23:27.

This race was organised by Tracy Guilfoyle (Kilnaboy AC) and right from start, she was running in the top 12. Mary McMahon (Ennis), Niamh McTague (Clare Crusaders), Beatrice Kerins (Ennis) and Emer McNamara (Crusheen) were all together over the first two miles but the leader, Tracy Guilfoyle, crossed the finishing line in 25:21. Mary McMahon was second in 30:01 closely followed by Niamh McTague (30:08) with Beatrice Kerins fourth in 30:19.

Senior ladies:
1. Tracy Guilfoyle (Kilnaboy) (25:21); 2. Mary McMahon (Ennis) (30:01); 3. Niamh McTague (Clare Crusaders) (30:08).
Senior men: 1. Thomas Grimes (East London Runners) (22:38); 2. John Hannon (BMOH) (23); 3. Colm Daly (Ennis Track) (23:09).
