A THERAPEUTIC Support group for people bereaved by suicide is about to commence in Limerick, run by Console.

It will offer an eight-week programme, giving people bereaved by suicide an opportunity to come together, share information and experiences and thereby give each other support.
The group will be facilitated by two of Console’s counselling team each week.
Pauline Londra of Console said such a group could be helpful for many people.
“It’s open to any adult who has been bereaved by suicide and friends, colleagues and relatives might want to come to it.”
She said that people who have been bereaved very recently might benefit more from other types of support.
“It’s very difficult to put a time on it. Someone who has been very recently bereaved might benefit more from other supports. At that stage a person mightn’t be ready for counselling but normally after three months they might be ready for it and they would go to counselling before coming to this type of support group.”
She said Console also offer help to groups of family members who want to access support together.
Console was founded in 2002 by a man whose sister died by suicide. Since then it has developed into a National Organisation supporting people in crisis and those bereaved by suicide through professional counselling, support and helpline services.
Console has centres in Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork, Wexford, Athlone and Kildare. For further information or to secure a place call Console at 061 306792.
