The final day of the Munster Tug-of-War Championships were held at Donoughmore in Cork on Sunday, hosted by the Donoughmore club and Carnival Committee. It proved to be a great day for the Burren club from Clare, who won both the 600kg and 700kg titles.
Four competitions were held on the day, the Youths U-18, U-23, 600kg and 700kg.
In the 600kg, four teams competed from Farrenreigh, Cuan Rithe, Burren and Donoughmore. The Burren were in superb form and went through without loosing a point but had to fight hard for all their wins.
The senior final was between the Burren and Donoughmore. The Burren were well in control here and took this in two straight ends.
In the 700kg, seven teams competed from Donoughmore, Cuan Rithe, Harps, Farrenreigh, Burren, Inchnapough A and B.
There was some fine pulling here, with all teams fighting for points and as it consisted of both novice and senior, there was only a final in both sections. Cuan Rithe decided to go into the senior section so they got through on 15 points and the Burren topped the overall group on full points with 18.
In the senior final between the Burren and Cuan Rithe, the Burren were the stronger and took it in two straight ends to take the title and the gold medals plus the Munster Board Perpetual Cup.
