Gort man dies following single-vehicle collision

A YOUNG man killed in a collision in South Galway earlier this week has been named locally as 18-year-old Brendan O’Halloran from Reekhill in Gort.

Mr O’Halloran, whose mother is from West Clare, was injured on Monday night when the car he was driving was involved in a single-vehicle collision two miles outside of Gort on the old Ennis Road. He was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he later died.
An 18-year-old Kilnaboy man, who was a passenger in the Honda Civic at the time, was also injured in the crash. His condition is described as stable.
The road was closed for much of the day on Tuesday as gardaí investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact Gort Garda Station on 091 636400 the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any garda station.
Mr O’Halloran is survived by an older brother and sister, his father, Tom, and his mother, Anne Marie, (nee Moloney) originally from Labasheeda.
Mr O’Halloran’s body will repose on Thursday evening from 5pm until 8pm. Removal will take place on Friday morning for funeral mass at midday in St Anne’s Church, Shanaglish with burial immediately afterwards in the local cemetery.
