COOLE FC were comprehensive winners of the Second Division League Cup at Doora on Sunday when they proved too strong for Inch Crusaders.
Some clinical finishing by the Gort-based side saw them comfortably capture the title.
Inch fought bravely to the end but they just could not match a Coole outfit that was in sparkling form throughout the pitch.
Inch created the first scoring chance but Abner Cordilleo in the Coole goal did well to save Sean Talty’s shot.
Fifteen minutes into the game, a goal from James Rynne wasn’t allowed because of an offside infringement. Two minutes later, the winners took the lead when Kyle McCarthy scored from the edge of the area.
They should have extended their lead shortly after this but David Cahill’s shot was well savaged by Andy O’Flynn in the Inch goal. Cahill’s pace and skill on the left wing was causing a lot of problems for the Inch defence.
Brothers Sean and Pádraig Talty were involved in most of the good play from the Inch side but they were still trailing from McCarthy’s goal when the half-time whistle sounded.
The winners had a great start to the second half when Daniel Bento scored following a defensive mistake by Inch. Bento struck again soon after following more good play by Cahill on the wing.
Fifteen minutes from the end, Coole stretched their advantage to four when Kyle McCarthy struck for his second, converting from the penalty spot.
Inch pulled one back five minutes later through Pádraig Talty but Coole finished strongly with goals from substitutes Liam Pependora and Savio Mario to seal an impressive victory.
Aidan O’Boyle, Eoin Glynn, Daniel Bento, Dave Cahill and Kyle McCarthy did well for the winners, while Andy O’Flynn, Sean and Pádraig Talty were best for Inch.
After the game, Gerry Scanlan, PRO of the Clare Soccer League, presented the trophy to the winning captain, Eoin Glynn.
