Goals win final for Kilmihil

Kilmihil 3-5   Doonbeg 0-5

The strong wind played a big factor in the U-16 Football Division 3 Shield final on Sunday in Quilty.

Kilmihil had the assistance of the wind in the first half and within the first two minutes were 1-1 to 0-0 in front. The goal scored by Shane O’Connor got Kilmihil off to a good start. A great save by Kilmihil goalie Cathal Murray denied the Magpies.
Kevin Greene opened the scoring for Doonbeg but playing against the wind proved difficult for them. Kilmihil dominated the first half leaving the score at half time 1-4 to 0-1 in their favour.
With the aid of the wind after the break, Doonbeg followers were looking for scores and their side had an early Andrew Lynch point followed by another from Mikey Tubridy.
However a brace of goals from David Egan gave Kilmihil command of the tie and while the Magpies battled to the finish, a better-balanced Kilmihil side captured the honours.
Best for Kilmihil were the goalie Cathal Murray, Eoin Callinan, who was the man of match and David Egan, while Doonbeg’s best were Andrew Lynch and Mikey Tubridy.
The winning team’s mentors were Conor Crowley, Laurence Murray, Andrew Johnston, Michael O’Leary and Kevin Callinan.
Doonbeg’s mentors were Fergus Conway, Tommy Behan, David Downes, Kenneth Tubridy and James Griffin.
