Goals galore with big wins in U-16 league

Inagh Kilnamona  6-13   St Joseph’s 0-1

Inagh-Kilnamona ran out comfortable winners over St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield in their second league game of the U-16 non-county player league on Wednesday evening last in Gurteen. St Joseph’s girls battled hard, but Inagh-Kilnamona proved to be the stronger side.

Sixmilebridge 10-7   Éire Óg 0-0

Sixmilebridge had a runaway victory over Éire Óg in the second round of the U-16A League on Wednesday evening in Sixmilebridge.

The visitors tried hard to make some headway but were thwarted at every attempt by strong defending. Éire Óg kept the pressure on throughout and the half-time score of 8-7 to 0-0.

Éire Óg 9-6   St Joseph’s 7-3

Éire Óg and neighbours, St Joseph’s, were neck and neck for much of this thrilling encounter on Tuesday evening. St Joseph’s opened the scoring with a well-taken goal but Éire Óg’s Elizabeth Russell reacted well and rattled the St Joseph’s net in reply.

The opening half continued with the sides matching each other, score for score until the Ennis side surged into a four-point half-time lead thanks to goals from Russell and Gráinne Nolan.

At the resumption, it was St Joseph’s that were first on the scoreboard, bringing the deficit back to a single point. Éire Óg replied with two points from Amy Broderick and a further Russell goal.

St Joseph’s were denied time and again by replacement goalie, Elaine Walsh and Éire Óg pushed on with two more points from Nolan and a fifth goal from the impressive Russell. While St Joseph’s pulled back a goal, victory was sealed for the Ennis side with goals from Amy Broderick and Elizabeth Russell.

Kilkishen 3-7   Feakle 1-4

Kilkishen were first off the mark in this U-16 B game with points from Áine Lynch and Niamh O’Gorman, followed by a goal from Áine Lynch which left Feakle fighting hard throughout the game.

They answered with two points from Laura McGrath and Evelyn Duggan before the break which left the score at Kilkishen 1-3 to Feakle 0-2.

The second half saw Feakle once again playing catch up when Ella Donnellan found the posts straight off the mark, this, however, was answered when Feakle’s Duggan pointed a free. Kilkishen substitute Megan Boland found the posts shortly after which left Feakle fighting hard for a score.

Kilkishen’s Ella Donnellan was able to dampen the Feakle spirits when she also found the net. Both sides fought hard to put themselves on the score sheet but it was Feakle that broke the silence with a point, but again Kilkishen nullified this score when Niamh O’Gorman pointed and Ella Donnellan found the net and finished the game with a point.
