ALICE Akers, Marian, produced another fine performance to take a silver medal at the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships (day 3), U-12s to U-19s, which were held in Tullamore on Saturday and Sunday.
Akers won her medal this time in the girls’ U-15 javelin with a throw of 30.69m.
In the girls’ U-16 1,500m, Niamh Markham, Ennis Track, had to settle for the silver medal with her personal best of 4.49:08, with victory going to Susan Cleirigh, Buttner, in 4.39:52.
In the girls’ U-17 1,500m, two Clare athletes battled for the national title with Meelick’s Amy O’Donoghue, Emerald AC, taking the honours in 4.39:91 from the hard-working Aishling Darcy, Ennis Track, with a time of 4.49:08.
Katie McInerney, Tulla, has been a very prominent athlete over the past number of years at the shot putt and competing in the girls’ U-15s she produced six fine throws to take the bronze medal with a throw of 10.81m.
In the girls’ U-18 1,500m, the Munster champion Harriett Flynn, Shannon, battled hard to take a silver medal with a time of 4.50:08.
