Geantraí from O’Keeffe’s Pub

Clare musician and composer Carmel O’Dea will double up as performer and presenter when hosting the popular traditional music series, Geantraí from O’Keefee’s Bar, Ennis.

For the programme, which airs this Sunday night at 10pm on TG4, Carmel will be joined by her sister Teresa O’Dea and cousin Niamh O’Dea as well as other musicians including Pádraig Rynne, Sylvain Barou and Karol Lynch, PJ King, Ann Maire McCormack and Cyril O’Donohue, Marcus Moloney, Kieran Kissane and Martin Dermondy along with singer Josie Harrington.
A new series of the popular traditional music programme has started a new 13-week run and the series, which has built up a loyal audience among traditional music followers in Ireland and abroad, will again feature musicians from well-know session pubs around the country.
Over the years, many of the prominent names in traditional music have featured in the series but also the talent of promising newcomers or indeed some quality veteran players not always in the public eye, have been recognised in the programmes.
The Geantraí series features a different musician-cum-presenter each week and the impressive list in the new series includes box players Christy Leahy and Paudie O’Connor, Dervish singer Cathy Jordan, fiddle players Carmel O’Dea, Fionn MacGiolla Chuda, Brenda Curtin and Aisling Ní Choisdealbha, pianist Mary Corcoran, guitarist and box player Ciaran Kelly, pipers Ronan Browne and Peter Browne, bouzouki player Donal Lunny and banjo player Pádraic MacDonnchadha.
