Gaels and Doonbeg must meet again

Shannon Gaels 0-9
Doonbeg 1-6

A LATE point from a Seán Reynolds free helped Shannon Gaels to salvage a draw against Doonbeg in last Saturday evening’s U-21B semi-final in Cooraclare.

Either team could have won, with both spurning chances at different times. Playing with the wind Shannon Gaels led 0-7 to 0-1 going into the closing minutes of the first half.
Doonbeg fought back though with four unanswered points, leaving the Gaels just 0-7 to 0-5 ahead at half-time.
The crucial score of the second half was Padraig Cussen’s goal for Doonbeg. It seemed this score would help the Magpies to establish their superiority, given that they had the elements behind them.
The Gaels dug in, though, with Seán Reynolds and Mark Bohannon pointing. Reynolds score 0-6 of the Gaels’ total from play and frees. Ruairí Norrby scored 0-2, while Paul Dillon top-scored for Doonbeg with 0-5. Padraig Cussen hit the remaining 1-1.
Both had chances to win it towards the end. They will have to replay, however, to decide who will play Corofin in the final.

Shannon Gaels: Paul Browne; Micheál Lorigan, Declan Pyne, Jack Browne; Brian Grogan, Tomás Cleary, Senan McMahon; Seán Reynolds, Michael O’Donoghue; Cillian McMahon, Mark Bohannon, Caimin McMahon; Ruairí Norrby, Nigel Hehir, Mark Hehir.
Subs: Eoin Grogan for Caimin McMahon.
Doonbeg: Ray McAuley; Kevin Healy, Eoin Conway, Patrick Pender; Kevin Pender, Joe Blake (captain), Nathan Capon, Paul Dillon, Paudie Nugent; Diarmuid Ryan, Kieran Walsh, Cian O’Mahony; Cathal O’Keeffe, Jamie Russell, Padraig Cussen.
