Changes at the top at O’Curry’s

Members of the O’Curry’s GAA Club attended their annual general meeting in Carrigaholt at the end of December and the re-convened AGM at the weekend.

The club will have a new chairman and secretary for the new year in Michael and Brian Troy respectively.

Club patron Fr Pat Culligan lamented the loss of the basic skills such as high fielding, foot passing and blocking down. He expressed his disappointment at the current state of football and warned that unless the basic principles are adhered to, the game will cease to be a spectator sport.

Margaret Keane gave a breakdown of events on and off the field for the year under review and said the highlight was regaining of senior status.

Treasurer Dinny McMahon presented a report and said it is very difficult to keep knocking on the same doors for financial aid but added that the people of the parish were outstanding in their support for the club.

Chairman Michael Curtin complimented the intermediate team and noted it was historic that 10 members of the team now have two intermediate championship medals, something never achieved in the parish before.

He said 2013 will be a great challenge for the management and players of the senior team but is confident that they are up to the task. He gave particular credit to Dinny McMahon, manager of the team, Michael Liddane trainer and fellow selector Flan Haugh.

He thanked the other team managements for their work and praised field committee chairman John O’Looney.

Coolmeen prepare for new season

The annual general meeting of Coolmeen GAA club was held recently. Chairman Enda Haugh welcomed everyone and reflected on the highs and lows of 2012. He congratulated the U-14 team that won the Division 4 Championship for a second year.

The U-15 Coolmeen/Kildysart team that won the Tom Conway Memorial tournament in Lissycasey and the Coolmeen/Kildysart minor team which won Division 3 Championship as well as the Coolmeen U-15 team that reached the West Clare Divisional Board’s B final and Coolmeen/Kildysart U-15 team who will contest the A final.

Outgoing secretary Des Farrell reported on the club’s activities during 2012 including the 125 celebration Day held on Sunday, June 24. He gave a report on field maintenance and many improvement works carried out. He praised those who helped in any way during the past year.

Assistant secretary Susan King gave a detailed report on all underage participation and successes in various competitions.

Outgoing treasurer Anthony Hanrahan gave a detailed report on club finances and emphasised the importance of the lotto and wren as major fundraisers. A fundraising committee has been set up to be chaired by vice-chairman David Neenan.

Like many other small rural clubs the decline in numbers at underage is a major cause for concern as is emigration.

The management for junior A team for 2013 is Martin Daly, Brian Meaney, John Murphy and Jack McMahon. The position of assistant secretary and the management for underage teams will be filled at the next officers meeting.


Killimer

There was a large attendance at Killimer GAA clubhouse for the AGM on Saturday. The proceedings began with a look back at 2012 in which the club fielded a junior team for the first time in four years, and an U-21 team for the first time in a few years also.

The committee of 2013 was put in place as follows; patron, Fr Martin Blake; president, Tommy O’Driscoll, vice-presidents, Patrick Browne and Seán Blake; chairperson, Martin McMahon; vice-chairperson, John Madigan; secretary, Eve Browne; treasurers, Mary Moloney and Sheila Donovan; assistant treasurer, Gerard Culligan; PROs, Pat McMahon and Mary Corry; assistant PRO, James Blake. Irish officer, Mary Corry, registrar, Patricia Cunningham; children’s officer, Mick Kelleher; county board delegates, Alan Culligan and Kenny Collins. The management of the Junior team was re-appointed.

Some new mentors have been appointed at underage level and arrangements are currently been finalised for the year ahead.


No change at Clooney/Quin

The U-21B Hurling Cup stood proudly on the top table at the Clooney/Quin GAA Club annual meeting on Sunday. Detailed reports on the past year from chairman, Sean Earls, secretary, Michael McNamara and treasurer, Haulie Hannon indicated that the club is in a strong position as members met to plan for 2013.

All outgoing officers were re-elected, with John Condon taking over as county board delegate from the long-serving PJ Cunningham, who has held almost every position on the club executive over a 40-year period.

All team managements delivered reports on the past season, after which all were re-appointed for another term. There will be a reconvened AGM on Monday, January 21, at 8pm in the GAA clubhouse to complete the agenda.

Chairman James Brody was re-elected for another year. The meeting paid tribute to the success of the Minor B amalgamation, who won the county final against Lissycasey.

Austin Kelly will head up a fundraising drive which includes a golf classic in Lahinch on March 23.

Ruan minor
The annual meeting of Ruan Minor club will take place on Monday, January 21, in Ruan Community Centre.
Parents of children playing hurling and anyone from the parish interested in promoting hurling are invited to attend. The meeting will start at 8pm.

St Senan’s, Kilkee
At the annual general meeting of St Senans Kilkee at the weekend John Lynch, first elected as club secretary in 1972, was returned for another term
