Funk Fusion taking to the stage

MEMBERS of the Funk Fusion Stage School will bring a well-produced tale to Glór this Saturday night, with their performance of Billy Elliot meets the Phantom of the Opera.
Marcella O’Sullivan of Funk Fusion, who is directing the show, explained it is a story of a young boy who wants to be an individual and dance but his father thinks dancing is for girls.
“When he talks to the teacher, she makes him see how many male famous artists there is in the world who were legends of music. He hides his dream from his father but as an individual follows his dream.
“The Phantom of the Opera is an adult who is hidden from the world because he is different and his behaviour is seen as different. Yet as the story unfolds, his ability for enjoyment of music is no different to the young boy’s and he too has dreams,” she said.
She added that the show will teach people about how society judges before they understand difference, “how society makes us feel and think as humans and also the boxes we should stay in”.
“There is a moral to the story but to find it out you have to come and see our show. The music of the show is very varied but it is the music from the X Factor. The cast range from the age of three years up to the age of 40, with many abilities and talents to shine on the night. Talent will be discovered and a hero will be found,” Marcella commented.
Funk Fusion have appeared in Glór a number of times in the past, including at the Banner Jigs ‘n Reels and with their Michael Jackson Tribute Show in November 2009.
Tickets for Billy Elliot meets the Phantom of the Opera are available from Glór at www.glor.ie or 065 6843103.
