ENNIS town manager, Ger Dollard has indicated the town could make another bid to host the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
The town narrowly lost out to Cavan to host the 2012 event, however, discussions are now underway to see if a bid for the 2013 fleadh will be made. Town manager Ger Dollard stated there was “disappointment” that the town would not host the 2012 fleadh but that the high standards of the local bid could pave the way for the town to host future events.
Speaking at the annual budget meeting of Ennis Town Council, Mr Dollard stated, “Ennis Town Council participated very strongly in the overall group established to progress a bid for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2012. Very substantial work and resources were assigned to make a very professional, innovative and attractive proposal for Ennis. Despite the quality of the submission and the extensive work undertaken locally, Ennis was not successful on this occasion.
“However, the work undertaken and the relationships that have been established provide a very firm foundation on which to make a future bid and for the hosting of other major events and activities.”
