Free events for Adult Learners’ Festival

A variety of free events will take place countywide as part of the nationwide Adult Learners’ Festival, running from February 20 to February 24. The festival aims to celebrate adult learning and achievements of adult learners and people are being urged to drop in to a free event or book a place on one of the free taster classes in the Adult Education Centre, Clonroad Business Park, Ennis.
On Monday next 20 at the Adult Education Centre, Clonroad Business Park, Ennis, there will be an event titled  Making Sense of your Cents – Budgeting Made Easy from  1pm to 2pm, contact 065 6824819 to book. Also on the day, learners and providers who are finalists will attend the AONTAS STAR Awards in Dublin. In the West Clare Resource Centre, Miltown Malbay, there will be Sowing Seeds for Spring from 10am to 12 noon, contact 065 6824819. A coffee and information event will be held in the Molua Centre, Killaloe from 10am to 12noon, and all are welcome to drop in. Contact 061 640760 for more information. Afternoon tea and a ‘passion and crime book swop’ will be held from 2pm to 4pm in the Shannon Adult Learning Centre (with Lemass Library), 4 Bru na Sionna. While there will also be afternoon tea and information at Killaloe Ballina FRC from 2pm to 4pm. All are welcome.
On Tuesday, there will be free events at the Adult Education Centre, Clonroad Business Park. There will be an opportunity to try orienteering at Lees Road from 11am to 2pm; a demonstration on growing your own potatoes in room 2 from 2pm to 4pm; a taster in Skype in Room 8 from 2pm to 3.30pm; fantasy football in Room 15, 6pm to 7.30pm and traditional board and card games in the canteen from 7pm to 9pm.
Also on Tuesday, there will be an information event in the community centre, Ennistymon from 9.30am to 2pm, contact 065 6843732. Kilrush Community Garden will be showing how to plant bare root hedging from 11am to 1pm, drop in or contact 065 9052131/087 9711315. A taster on making a takeaway garden will be held in the community co-op, Scariff, from 10am to 1pm, contact 061 640760. Get to Know Your Local  Politician is the title of a viewing board, which will be on display all day in the  Shannon Adult Learning Centre while a taster in Skype will be held in the adult education room of Ennistymon library from 2pm to 3.30pm.  All are welcome, contact 0871334992.
On Wednesday, free events at the Adult Education Centre, Ennis include a knitting workshop from 7pm to 9pm and there will be a local learning information stand from 10am to 4pm in the Department of Social Protection on the Kilrush Road.
Skype workshops will be held at 10am in 4 Bru na Sionna, Shannon, FRC Killaloe from 10.30am to 12.30pm and in the Adult Education Centre, Scariff, from 2pm to 4pm. A ‘spud day’ where you can learn to chit your potatoes and grow an early crop will be held from 11.30am to 12.30pm in 4 Bru na Sionna, Shannon.
Thursday’s free events in Ennis’ Adult Education Centre include: Get Smart about Your Smartphone, 1pm to 2pm; demonstration cooking for days, Room 6, 7pm to 9pm; sports and social clubs and voluntary organisations open evening, 7pm to  8.30pm in the canteen. There will also be a celebration of adult learning at 6.30pm in Scariff Community College.
The final day of the week will see I-movies on your siPad being the free event in the Adult Education Centre, Clonroad Business Park, Ennis, from 2pm to 4pm. There will be an information coffee morning in Scariff Adult Education Centre from 10am to 12 noon and a celebration of Learning, at Sean Lemass Library, Shannon from 11.30am. 
There will also be learning information stands all week at Kilrush and Scariff Social Welfare offices.
