A BENEFIT night is being held for well-known musician Frankie Lundy (from the band SILK) on Tuesday in the Shannon Knights.
This is a one-off collaboration involving a number of well-known bands to help Frankie in his illness.
Frankie has been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. This is a rare, progressive neurological disorder that causes a person’s brain cells to degenerate. The disease can cause involuntary movements, slurred speech and choking, among other physical symptoms. Other problems include changes in personality, depression, anxiety, mania and disinhibition.
The symptoms are most likely to occur between the ages of 30 and 50 but they can sometimes appear at an earlier or later stage of life. It is a hereditary disease, and each child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting it.
There is no known cure for the disease but Frankie is receiving help and support from the Huntington’s Disease Association of Ireland.
The line-up for the night will include Shaun O’Dowd with Dingaling, the original line-up of Fantasy, Big Generator, One September, Darcy’s Survivors and a number of others. The MC for the night will be Mike Gardner.
All are welcome and tickets can be purchased from the Shannon Knights bar at 061 361045, Ray Scullion at 085 7730540 or Siobhán Lundy at 087 6267060.
