Fr Brian D’Arcy brings a little healing to the ‘Bridge

A LITTLE bit of healing is the title of a talk that will be given by celebrity priest Fr Brian D’Arcy at Sixmilebridge church next Wednesday night at 8pm.

Parish priest Fr Harry Bohan said that Fr D’Arcy has been a very influential figure. “He has touched a lot of lives I think. He’s touched the lives of very vulnerable people in a whole lot of different ways.”
Fr D’Arcy writes a column for The Sunday World and also appears on BBC radio. He has also appeared on The Late Late Show several times and has questioned clerical celibacy.
Fr Bohan said he has always been very honest about his own views. “He’s fairly outspoken and I suppose in changing times, he was very outspoken and honest in terms of his own life as a priest and his own humanity. He would have been a fairly strong voice in the whole area of justice. I would say very definitely he would have been very much on the side of the weak and vulnerable. He’s a man who seems to have connected with all age groups. He told me he’s after running a nine-day novena in Fermanagh and there were 2,000 a day at it, so obviously he touches a lot of people.
“He’s going to talk about Christian values, how the Christian message can touch the lives of people and he told me that he’ll tell a few stories that touch on real life.”
The talk by Fr D’Arcy is one of a series that has been ongoing in Sixmilebridge.
“He’s the fourth one, we had one last week on poverty in the Third World with Eamon Meehan. He’s a native of Kilmaley and a deputy director of Trócaire. We had Dr Mary Surlis and she was talking about parents and young people, the title of her talk was Looking to the future. Before that, we had one on the dangers of substance abuse and we had Seamus McMahon from the gardaí. There were different themes to them all,” Fr Bohan said.
