IT has been another successful summer for Clare surf lifesaving. The nippers and juniors were in Curracloe in Wexford recently for the national finals, having qualified from the provincial championships in Inchadoney, Cork two weeks earlier. The junior boys and girls took the honours.
Clare had stiff completion with teams from Waterford, Wicklow, Cork, Wexford, Donegal, Louth and Mayo challenging for honours. Some of the individual events included the 200m swim, board race and fin swim, all parallel to shore.
There were Clare teams in both the boys and girls competitions at junior level (14 to 18 years). The teams could put two competitors in each of individual events and four team events. Both the Clare girls A and boys A teams came in first place.
This weekend, Clare will be in Rossnowlagh in Donegal for the Senior National Championships.
