Sixmilebridge 1-17 Wolfe Tones 1-6
Sixmilebridge collected their first points of this year’s U-16 hurling campaign with a well-deserved victory over Wolf Tones on Sunday afternoon.
The ’Bridge raced into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead in the opening five minutes with the goal coming from the hard-working Cathal Lynch. The points came from an Eoin Flynn free and Ronan Cahill, while Arron Shanagher replied from two placed balls for Tones by the 10th minute. The ’Bridge owned the rest of the half, with a great solo point from Gavin Whyte and five Eoin Flynn points, leaving the half-time score at 1-8 to 0-3.
The skillful Jack Cunningham opened the scoring at the start of the second half for Tones with a point. With Robbie Corry and Shaun Murray earning frees and setting up their teammates for some delightful scores in the second half, it appeared it would be a good day for a ’Bridge team that really didn’t perform seven days previous.
The Tones battled hard to get back into the game with a Jack Cunningham goal and hard work from centre-forward Arron Diviney. The score of the day came in the 11th minute of the second half from Eoin Flynn.
Best for the winners were Cathaoir Agnew, Cathal Lynch, Eoin Flynn, Robbie Corry, Cathal Kinnane and Pa Mulready while best for Tones were Kevin Justice, Arron Shanagher, Arron Diviney and Jack Cunningham.

Corofin/Ruan 0-15 Kilmaley 0-14
Corofin/Ruan got their campaign off to a winning start with a one-point victory over Kilmaley on Sunday last in Ruan. Michael Lyons got the winners off to a good start with a point in the first minute. This was a close game all through, with no more that a few points separating the teams at any stage. The standard of hurling was high, even though very few goal chances were created by either team. The teams exchanged points in the first half, with Corofin/Ruan ending the half two points ahead, 0-8 to 0-6. Kilmaley’s points came from Joe Carmody, Sean Malone, Pádraig MacNamara and Killian Normoyle. Corofin/Ruan replied with points from Liam O’Donovan, Michael Kelly and Conal O’hAinifein.
The winners extended their lead to three points at the start of the second half but Kilmaley regained parity with some good free taking from Joe Carmody. Conal O’Hainifein and Liam O’Donovan extended Corofin/Ruan’s lead with points from play and frees. The winners were three points ahead with five minutes to go but Kilmaley rallied with points from Joe Carmody, Pádraig MacNamara and Michael O’Malley to draw level. Corofin/Ruan attacked from the puck-out and when Cian O’Dea was upended 30 metres from goal, Conal O’hAinifein scored the resultant free to give the amalgamation a one-point victory in their first match of the competition.

Newmarket-on-Fergus 1-13 Clooney/Quin 2-9
Played in wet conditions at Clooney on Sunday, Newmarket-on-Fergus emerged with a one-point win after a hard-fought encounter. The sides were level on a number of occasions in the first half, with Clooney-Quin going in at the break with a one-point advantage, 1-8 to 0-7. Newmarket-on-Fergus upped their performance in the second half and with minutes remaining were four points to the good. However, an own-goal two minutes from the end made for a tense final few minutes.
Best for Newmarket on the day were Cathal Noonan, David Griffin, James Freeman and Shane McMahon.
Clooney-Quin had good performances from Rory Corbett, Conor Grogan and Eanna Barry.

Clarecastle 4-12 O’Callaghan’s Mills 3-6
O’Callaghan’s Mills and Clarecastle met in wet, slippery and windy conditions in Kilkishen.
Clarecastle got off to a strong start with 1-2 before the Mills registered a score from a free. The Magpies led by double scores at half-time 2-8 to 1-4.
In the second half, the Mills fought back to get within two points of the winners. However, Clarecastle rallied and secured the win with two late goals.
