Feakle-Broadford fight back for win

Leading by 1-8 to 0-4 at half time it looked like the ‘Bridge were destined for victory in the first round of this minor championship game played in perfect weather conditions.

 

Slaine Carey opened the ‘Bridge account with a point, followed closely by another from Ali Quinlan The ‘Bridge then rattled the Feakle/Broadford net with a goal by Carey. Feakle/Broadford were slow to settle and it took 15 minutes to register their first score, a point from Áine Ryan. This helped settled the East Clare side and they added three more points from Aoife Dillion and two from Aoife Tuohy.

The ‘Bridge continued to dominate the rest of the half however with Keelin Lyons, Aoife Roche, and Fiona Murphy registering scores, leaving the half time score Sixmilebridge 1-8 Feakle/Broadford 0-4.
Feakle/Broadford came out with all guns blazing in the second half and Jodi Guilfoyle popped over a quick point. The visitors continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with a goal from substitute Niamh Mulqueen.

The winner’s backs refused to yield to the ‘Bridge attack and they were rewarded with their second goal when Jodi Guilfoyle raised a green flag in the 15th minute. Feakle/Broadford continued this purple patch with further points from Lauren Guilfoyle, Niamh Mulqueen and Regan Conway, whilst holding the ‘Bridge forwards scoreless.

Éire Óg   4-12
Newmarket-on-Fergus  2-11

Éire Óg came away with the points on Monday evening when they were hosted by Newmarket-on-Fergus in the first round of the U-18A championship. The hosts were first on the scoreboard with a well-taken point while a Gráinne Nolan point levelled matters.
A point from Annemarie Hayes pushed Newmarket in front again but three points in a row from the visitors gave them the edge. A Niki Kaiser free brought Newmarket to within a point but Éire Óg’s Orla Devitt struck for a goal and a point to give her side a five-point lead.

A determined Newmarket side fought back however, notching up 1-1 to leave the minimum between the sides at the break.
In an entertaining and high scoring second half, the sides matched each other score for score.

It was only in the last ten minutes that Éire Óg pulled away, with Devitt completing a hat-trick of goals and Gráinne Nolan also finding the Newmarket net. Points came from midfielder Rae Wall (1) and full forward Amy Broderick (1) both of whom put in solid performances. Nolan and Devitt notched up a further five points between them to ensure a seven-point victory for Éire Óg.
