EXHIBITORS and their tutors were highly commended for their efforts at the opening in Ennistymon of an exhibition by mature art students of the local vocational school.
Many viewers were of the opinion that Explorations, the latest in an annual series, was the best yet. It embraced an array of works of different disciplines studied by the students for levels five and six of the Further Education and Training Awards Council of Ireland (FETAC) certificate. Alan Riordan, who chairs the school’s board of management, formally opened the exhibition. He said people could only be struck by the talent and skill of the artists who conceived and produced the works on display. They provided a comprehensive display of the different disciplines being studied at Ennistymon Vocational School.
“I am delighted to know that the course is always very well attended, which, I feel, is a tribute to the efforts and commitment of both teachers and students. They have put on a magnificent exhibition,” he added.
Elizabeth Flanagan said the course participants not only demonstrated wonderful skills and accomplishments but were also a great example to the younger students.
The show, which lasted seven days, showed evidence of the diversity of styles and types of work being practised. These include drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics and mosaic.
“The FETAC course is intensive and open to anyone who has an interest in and wishes to expand their knowledge and skill in art,” explained Bairbre Geraghty, who teaches art with colleague, Edel Hogan.
“The course is always well subscribed, with an eclectic mix attending, both in age and background, creating a lively and open-minded environment in which to learn,” she said.
