Inch Crusaders defeated Hermitage B in an entertaining game at the Fairgreen on Sunday. Inch got a great start when James Rynne opened the scoring in the first minute with a powerful shot to the left corner after a good passing involving Seán Hehir and Clinton Keane.
Inch had the better of the chances in the first half with Niall Seery, Pádraig Talty and Keane all going close to increasing the Crusaders’ lead. Hermitage were always dangerous with Richie Fitzgerald playing well in midfield. On the stroke of half-time, Hermitage were given a lifeline when a shot rebounded off the crossbar and in trying to clear their lines, Inch gave away a penalty. Shane Talty, who was fouled, stepped up to take the penalty and gave Andy O’Flynn no chance with a well-struck effort.
Hermitage started the second half brightly and put Inch under some early pressure. Inch moved Hehir into defence after Tom Carmody retired injured. Hehir and Emmet Bowe were now playing well at the back for Inch and as the half wore on, it was anybody’s game. Seery went close to giving Inch the lead on 65 minutes but was denied by an excellent save by Ruane in goal. On 70 minutes Seán Talty made a great run through the Hermitage defence and sent Thomas O’Doherty clear on the right. O’Doherty held his nerve to finish well and put Inch back in front. From hear to the finish both sides had chances to score but it was Inch who held on to claim all three points.
