Ennistymon society to stage Fiddler on the Roof

ENNISTYMON Choral Society will present Fiddler on the Roof beginning on Thursday, April 14 and continuing until Sunday, April 17 inclusive in the Sluagh Hall, Lahinch at 8.15pm nightly.

The society was established in 1973 and this will be the society’s 38th production.
“Fiddler is a fabulous and classic show that will make you laugh, cry, and remember timeless songs like If I were a rich man, Matchmaker, Sunrise, sunset and Tradition. This year, the society is very lucky to have such a talented and diverse cast. Taking on the lead role of Tevye is Ennistymon local, Mark Kelly, with his wife, Golde, being played by another Ennistymon lady, Sinéad Blackwell. Performing the role of Mordcha for the third time is Denis Creedon, and for the second time Carmel Thyne will take on the industrious matchmaker,” outlines Emma Jane Brown, secretary of Ennistymon Choral Society.
Fiddler on the Roof tells the tale of Tevye, a poor milkman who has the unenviable task of finding matches for his five beautiful daughters. Through humour and pathos, his story plays out during the pogroms of 1905 Russia, when Jews were forced out of villages and subjected to exile.
“This fantastic show will thrill and excite through a story that is a timeless classic. In keeping with the society’s own tradition, all men have grown their own beards for the show. The society will hold a beard shave-off in aid of the Friends of Ennistymon Hospital on Thursday April 21 in Murty McMahon’s Bar, Ennistymon at 9pm, with shaving courtesy of BarberEd Ennistymon. Everyone is welcome and sponsor sheets are available throughout the local area, it would be great to get as much support as possible for this local cause,” Ms Brown continued.
The booking office will open in the Square, Ennistymon on Tuesday and Wednesday next from 2pm to 5pm. It will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 4.30pm and bookings can be made by phone to 065 7071828.
