The teams were tied at 0-6 each at half time while the second half was equally tight. Corner-forward Danny Rouine kicked six of Ennistymon’s points while corner-forward Joe Dowling added four. County man Alan Clohessy kicked six scores for Liscannor, including five frees and a line ball.

Kilmurry Ibrickane 0-11   Lissycasey 0-10

The meeting of the top two in this season’s Cusack Cup resulted in an entertaining game of football at Quilty on Friday evening.

The visitors looked to be on the road to victory when they led by two points inside the last ten minutes but the experience of the home side saw them edge it in the end.

With four wins from four outings, the champions sit comfortable on top of the table and are odds-on favourites for a place in the play-offs.

Both sides went into the tie short a number of regulars and throughout the opening quarter it looked like the winners, who are the competition titleholders, would record a comfortable win as they raced into a five-point lead.

Mark McCarthy (3), Seamus Lynch and Darren Hickey had points for the winners before the visitors had their opening point, from wing-back Derek McMahon, at the midpoint of the half.

This score sparked off a good spell for Lissycasey and they added points from Derek McMahon, Francis Hayes, David Considine and Sean Hayes. Kilmurry had one from Seamus Lynch which helped them to lead by the minimum margin at the break, 0-6 to 0-5.

Kilmurry made some changes for the second half that saw Ian McInerney move to midfield with the experienced Aidan Moloney Jnr coming into the attack.

Lissycasey had gone two points clear, 0-9 to 0-7, after some impressive points from Matt O’Shea, Sean Hayes, David Considine and Conor Finnucane.

Kilmurry fought back to level before a Sean Hayes effort put the visitors ahead again with a minute remaining.

The champions were not to be denied, however, and Mark McCarthy kicked the equalising score from a free after the ball had been moved forward when Lissycasey were penalised for dissenting with referee Barry Kelly’s original decision.
