Ennis’s homeless all housed claims activist

All of Ennis’s homeless have been housed, according to homeless activist Josephine O’Brien.
In the past six months, eight homeless people have been accommodated, according to Ms O’Brien, of the HELP organisation for the homeless.

The campaigner has lobbied for the homeless of Ennis for the last four years and was delighted to be in a position to say this week that all of the homeless she would have regular dealings with now have a roof over their heads.
Asked what she attributes this to, she said, “We would have a lot more communication with the statutory bodies than we would have previously. I also think that a lot of them are doing great now because they have stability.”
“We still have communication with them and they still ring and text to let us know how they are doing. We will still continue to fundraise because there is always someone who will end up homeless that will need help. By having funding we are better able to help these people get accommodation,” she said.
Ms O’Brien explained that all those who have been housed in the past six months are “doing great” and those where alcohol would have been an issue are staying away from it. She believes having the stability of accommodation is helping in this regard.
She added that at least one of the eight is currently employed and is hoping that opportunities may present themselves for the others also.
