Ennis swimmers’ golden glow


The Grade B swimmers from Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club had a very successful meet in Askeaton recently in a competitive Munster region gala. They won a total of 25 individual medals (12 gold, nine silver and four bronze) and four relay medals (two silver and two bronze).

At the end of the day, three swimmers were successful in making the transition up to the Grade A level. They were Meabh Moriarty, Ailbhe Hogan and Eoin McNamara. Medal winners are listed below.
Girls’ 8-11

Ivana Pyne achieved two personal best times while winning a silver medal in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.35.46 and a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly, with a time of 41.82.
Girls’ 12-13
Meabh Moriarty took the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.35.46 and the bronze medal in the 100m individual medley in 1.27.82.
Girls’ 14-15
Ailbhe Hogan turned in the best performance for the girls in winning four gold medals and setting personal best times in the four events. She finished the 200 freestyle in 2.43.56, an 11-second PB, the 100m freestyle in 1.13.84, a six-second PB, the 100m breaststroke in 1.37.50, a three-second PB and the 100m individual medley in 1.27.37, a two-second PB.
Niamh Dolan had a great swim in the 200m freestyle, knocking off 11 seconds from her previous best time, finishing in 2.45.84, which earned her a silver medal. Niamh added a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle. Orla Bredin won a silver medal and established a five-second personal best in the 100m backstroke in 1.34.09. Darrelle Colleran won the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.40.65.
Girls’ 16 and over
Niamh Reidy put in a good effort in winning the gold medal in the 200m freestyle in 2.48.06, which was a seven-second personal best.
Boys’ 12-13
Marley Haugh won the silver medal in the 100m breastroke in a seven-second personal best time of 1.42.78, while teammate Nathan Coote won the bronze medal with a five-second personal best of 1.49.63.
Boys’ 14-15
Eoin McNamara put in an exceptional swim to set a 12-second PB in the 200m freestyle, finishing in 2.34.91 and winning the gold medal. He added two other gold medals in the 100m backstroke and the 100m individual medley. Eoin Hartigan set two personal best times while earning silver medals in the 100m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley. Lorcan Casey finished strongly in his 200m freestyle and won a bronze medal.
Boys’ 16 and over
Mark McGovern won three gold medals in the 200m freestyle, the 100m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke. He also added a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.
