Ennis seniors support Clare Crusaders

LAST week, Ennis Seniors Golf Group held a modified scramble in which 42 played. The winners were Ferdie O’Donoghue, Jimmy Kearns and Tom Greene with 74 points followed by Pat McInerney, Noel Pilkington and Tony Coote with 65, Denis O’Ceallaigh, Jimmy McNamara and Jim Scully with 65, Michael Vaughan, Pat O’Reilly and Seamus Hanrahan with 65, TJ Kerins, Pat McGuire and Tom Pender.
This Thursday, the seniors will hold a fundraiser in aid of Clare Crusaders.
In the monthly medal club competition for ladies, Suzanne Deane was the winner of the silver medal while Celia O’Reilly won the bronze medal and both returned scores of 73 nett.

Woodstock

IN the club singles at Woodstock at the weekend, the winner was Frank McEnery (15) with 43 points from Thomas Barrett (20) who scored 41 points.
This weekend’s competition will be the October medal.

Lahinch

THE ladies’ turkey singles Stableford competition at Lahinch last Monday was won by Margaret Cooney (26) with 24 points.
Last Thursday’s open singles was won by Kerril O’Mahony with 30 points from Domhnall O’Mahony on 28 points and Cian O’Mahony on 26 points.
In the men’s monthly medal on Saturday, Adrian Lyons (9) was the winner with 71 nett from Jimmy Condon (11) on 72 and Paul O’Brien (6) on 74.

Gort

THE men’s club classic was the attraction at Gort at the weekend when the winners were Chris Garne (Fota), Billy Farrell (Ballybunion), J Kearney, D Murphy (Kanturk) with 96 points. They won from Pat Fahey, John Fordham, Finbarr and Brendan Gantley with a similar score. In third spot, also with 96 points were David and Michael O’Dell, John Tierney, Matthew O’Halloran. They were followed by Dermot McDermott, Michael Moroney, Colin Whelan and James Fahey with 95 points, Denis Flynn, Seamus Brophy, Jim Noone (Loughrea) and Oliver Geraghty (Athenry) with 94 points, Brendan Lynskey, Jimmy Flaherty, Pat G. Kelly and Walter McDonagh with 93 points, Bernard, David and Niall Gillane and Michael McNamara with 91 points, S Perry, C Allen, K Colligan and P Bargary (Slievenamon) with 89 points, Ger Connors, Pat Curtis, David Daly and Michael Ryan with 89 points, P Landers, S Landers, M Landers, N Landers (West Waterford) with 88 points.
In the weekend’s 18-hole singles Stableford golfer-of-the-year competition, John Greer was the winner with 41 points from Alan Minogue with 29 points, David McAllan with 37 points and Noel Ruane with 37 points. Colman Cooney won the gross with 31 points.
In the open singles last week, Brendan Hanniffy was the winner with 37 points from Eamonn Morrissey with 36 points. John Green won the gross with 29 points.
There will be an 18-hole fourball this weekend.
In last week’s ladies’ 18 hole fourball, Siobhán Forde and Margaret McMahon won on 44 points.
This week, the ladies will play the Christmas hampers, an 18-hole singles Stableford competition.

Dromoland

IN the Fred O’Flanagan competition at Dromoland, Shane Mowatt was the winner with one-up from Aidan McMahon (level) with Richard Flynn next with a score of one-down. Ryan O’Neill won the junior section with one-up.
There will be a singles Stableford competition this weekend.

Portumna

THE 18-hole singles Stableford golfer-of-the-year competition at Portumna at the weekend, Donal Flannery (15) was the winner with 37 points from Ger Madden (8) with a similar score. Tom Mulvihill (20) was third with 36 points while JP McLoughlin (2) won the gross with 32 points. Joe McCormack (21) won the seniors’ category with 36 points.
In the Monday open singles, Ronan Nevin (11) was the winner with 43 points from Adrian Madden (10) with 41 points and Gerry Joyce (14) with 39 points. JP McLoughlin (2) again won the gross with 35 points.

Spanish Point

ON Saturday last, lady captain Breda Murphy; vice-captain Noel McMahon and captain, Mike Hennessy hosted the annual Clare captains’ outing to Spanish Point, which included a team scramble.
With the turkey competitions now in full swing, the winter layout is in play and despite the constant rain of the past few weeks ground conditions are still dry. The development of the new eight green has gone well and it is anticipated it will be in play next spring thus returning the layout to the full design as given originally by the late Austin Skerritt.
In the turkey singles at the weekend, the winner was Eoghan O’Loughlin (4) with 40 points from Joe O’Rourke (16) with 34.
In the seniors’ open last week, the winner was Brendan Reddan (16) with 35 points from Tony Crowley (18) with 36 points.
The weekly open was won by Mervin Hehir (15) with 35 points.
There will be a two-ball scramble this weekend with a minimum of six drives required from each player.

East Clare

THERE was no weekend competition at East Clare due to the bad weather. Last week’s ladies’ seniors competition was won by Joan Kinsella, Jan Davis and Mary Collins from Phil Burke, Hilda McHugh and Georgina Wright.
Next weekend, there is a singles for both men and ladies. Throughout the month of October, there is a nine-hole mixed reentry competition.
The captain’s dinner takes place in the clubhouse on Saturday, November 5.

Shannon

SEAMUS Conroy (17) won the Wednesday open singles at Shannon with 37 points from Denis O’Brien (5) with a similar score. David Sheedy (18) was in third spot, a point back, while Michael Mulcahy (13) won the gross with 24 points.
In the men’s 18 hole v par fourball at the weekend, the winners were C O’Flynn (4) and D Quinlan (15) with seven-up from A (16) and J Pearse (18) with six-up.
Sunday’s men’s singles was won by Eamon Fanneran (9) with 41 points from John O’Connell (18) with 39 points and Michael Kearney (9) with 38 points. Ed Hickey (1) won the gross with 33 points.
The ladies’ 18-hole Stableford competition last week was won by Mary McGuane (29) with 36 points from Maura Mulcahy (2) on 34 points and Eileen McNamara (23) with 33 points. Jean Murphy Wright (9) won the gross with 23 points.

Pitch and Putt

PADDY Sheedy was the winner of the Clare County Pitch and Putt board’s matchplay competition at the Clare Road last week.
The club scramble was won by Noel Cuddihy, Denis McElligott and Marty Fawl.
