THE world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir return to Glór this month for one night only, where they will be joined by Clare’s own Ennis Gospel Choir.
The visit follows performances the choir has done for Nelson Mandela at Yankee Stadium, the Pope in Central Park, with the Chieftains on their US tour and on U2’s Rattle and Hum tour.
Formed in 1988, the Harlem Gospel Choir made its highly successful debut at New York’s Cotton Club that same year.
They take to the Glór stage on Friday, October 28 at 8pm, where members of the Ennis Gospel Choir will add their voices to this celebration of gospel music.
The choir draws its core singers from various black churches in the Harlem community, who share the common aim of bringing about a better understanding of African/American culture.
Founder member, Allen Bailey has worked in the entertainment industry for over 30 years. He has worked as promotional director for major recording artists including Lionel Ritchie and the Commodores, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mr T, and Isaac Hayes. In addition, he was chairman for the Martin Luther King Holiday campaign and it was through this work that the Harlem Gospel Choir was born.
The choir’s voices reflect the renaissance of Harlem’s culture and the New York spirit of gospel.
Every concert is infectiously enthusiastic offering a rollercoaster ride of singing and dancing and the choir’s rich harmonies and dynamic sound are unfettered and joyously gospel.
Their songs of inspiration touch the depths of the soul and raise spirits to angelic heights. The choir devotes his time to spreading the joy of faith throughout the world.
