EXACTLY 50 years from the day they made history by leading Ennis CBS to the school’s only Dr Harty Cup, Munster Colleges Senior A Hurling title, members of the victorious Ennis school side from 1962 were back in Cusack Park on Sunday.
They were accompanied by two members of the team they beat in that final, fellow Ennis school, St Flannan’s College.
Team captain Paddy Flynn and fellow Ennis players Gary Stack, Michael Hanrahan and Vincent Loftus were joined by Michael Hayes from Clooney, Sean O’Laoire from Inagh, Gus Considine from Clarecastle and PJ O’Connor from Ruan, while St Flannan’s players Dickie Pyne (Ennis) and Frankie McNamara (Clarecastle) were also present.
At half-time in the league game with Wexford, the Harty Cup stars of 1962 were introduced to the crowd.
Current CBS, now known as Rice College, principal Louis Mulqueen, a member of the Clare senior hurling selection committee, arranged with Clare GAA to have the players introduced to the patrons on Sunday.
It is understood that a full reunion of the panel is being planned for the end of April.
