East Clare hosts team-of-three competition

This weekend, there will be an open team-of-three at East Clare. A timesheet is in operation and details are available from  061 921322.
In the men’s 18-hole Stableford competition at the weekend, Damian Carroll was the winner with 41 points from William McLysaght on 39 points.
The senior men had an outing to Shannon where the winners, with 90 points, were Martin Mason, Ted Harrington and Flan Mullane from John Farrell, Martin Kelly and Tim McGrath with 74. In third spot were Martin Quinn, Michael Drew and Jackie McHugh with 73. The gross was won by Jim Greene with 77, while the leading individual was Martin Mason with 48 points.
In the seniors competition on the home course, the winners last week were Brendan Moloney, Michael Drew and Pat Clancy from Teddy Murphy, Eamonn Long and Vinny Henchy with third place filled by John Farrell, Liam Skelly and Conor Tuohy.
In the ladies’ competition the winner was Trish Kerr from Catherine Minogue.
In Sunday’s competition, the winner was Bridget Minogue, while the previous week’s winner was Mary Rodgers.

Ennis
Ennis Seniors held a fourball competition on Thursday last. The winners with 40 points were Joe McMahon and Frank Sheedy and they were followed by John Stack and Pat Rutherford, with a similar score. In third spot on 38 points were John Vaughan and Luke Coote followed by Ferdie O’Donoghue and Michael Vaughan with 37, John Gillane and Sean Fitzpatrick with 37, with sixth spot filled by George Dilger and Sean O’Gorman, with a similar score.
In the weekend turkey fourball, the winners were Tony Kehoe and Tom Purcell with 51 points, two clear of Bernard Hanrahan and Colin Higgins, with third spot filled by Tim McAllister and Paul Higgins on a similar score. In fourth spot with 48 points were Liam O’Dwyer and Sean Miniter with 48 points followed by James Ball and Gerry O’Connor on 47 points.

Lahinch
The winner of last week’s turkey singles for ladies on the Old Course at Lahinch was Margaret Lacheiner (17) with 33 points.
Last week’s men’s open singles winner was Denis Creedon (8) with 40 points. In the men’s singles on Saturday, the winner was Noel Sexton (9) with 41 points from John Donovan (13) with a similar score, Dermot Hurley (12) was third with 39 points, while the gross was won by Stephen Hennessy with 34 points.
The competition on Sunday for men was a turkey singles Stableford and the winner was Fergus Blake (14) with 39 points from Simon Morris (6) with 38 points.
They were followed by Michael Lynch (11) with 37 points, Gary Lavelle (5) with 36 points, Jimmy Doyle (12) with 35 points, Sean Shanahan (6) with 34 points and Kevin Glynn (9) with 33 points.
In the ladies’ turkey fourball on Sunday, Mary Sadlier (11) and Jenny Cagney (14) were the winners with 39 points.

Shannon
The men’s hamper was played for at Shannon at the weekend and the winner was Christy Power with 45 points from John Gubbins, with a similar score. Joe Hehir was third with 44 points followed by James Begley with a similar score, Louis Upton with 43, Kieran Considine with 43 and Tom Kiely with 42. Ed Hickey won the gross with 38 points.
In last week’s men’s open singles, Des Elligott was the winner from James Cleary with Vincent O’Brien in third place and all scored 40 points. Denis O’Brien won the gross with 34 points. 
The winner of the ladies’ 15-hole singles was Christine Halpin with 32 points followed by Mary Flynn with 28 points and Hilary Park with 24 points.

Spanish Point
The open seniors for male and female golfers continues to be well supported and continues each Tuesday through winter. Last week, the winner was Gerry Meade (17) with a score of 36 points.
Seasonal turkey competitions continue and last weekend the format was singles  Stableford, resulting in a win for Martin Glenny (15) with 38 points. In second place was Paidí McGough (12) on 37 points.
This Bank Holiday Weekend there will be a team of three/four modified scramble on Saturday and Sunday and an open singles on Monday. Timesheets are in operation.

Kilrush
In the weekly seniors outing at Kilrush, the winners were Tom Prendeville, John Stapleton and TJ Lyons with 59 points. In second place with 57 points were Jimmy McSwiggan, Tom Cleary and Maurice Roche and they were followed by Aeneas O’Connor, Tom Coffey and Noel Enright with 53 points.
The winter league continues this week (week three) and will run until Saturday, November 10.
The club’s fashion show takes place this Thursday.

Gort
The winner of the men’s 18-hole singles at Gort last weekend was James C Rodgers (16) with 42 points from John Gaynor (19) with a similar score. Stephen Dervan (12) was third and he had 39 points with Kieran Cullinane next, also with 39 points. The gross was won by Trevor Cummins (7) with 34 points.
The winner of last week’s open singles was Brendan Hanniffy (11) with 40 points.
This Bank Holiday Weekend there will be a singles competition on Saturday and Sunday, while the weekly open will continue on Monday.
In the ladies’ section, the recent winner of the Christmas hampers competition was Teresa Gill (17) with 40 points from Siobhán Forde (11) with 37 points and Kathleen Reeves (25) with 36 points. Siobhan O’Connor (9) won the gross with 24 points. This weekend, the ladies will have a voucher competition, while the annual Christmas crackers competition will begin this Thursday.

Portumna
This Sunday, Portumna will host the final open of the year when the format will be ladies’ and gents’ three-ball waltz (any combination).
Last week’s men’s 18-hole open singles was won by Niall Maher (7) with 40 points from William Madden (13) with 38 points, Daire Mullen (14) with 37 points and Kieran McGurran (10) with 37 points. JP McLoughlin (scratch) won the gross with 35 points.
The winner of the Monday open was Tony Harte (17) with 38 points from John Cleary (4) with 38 points and Dermot O’Donoghue (5) from East Clare with 36 points. JP McLoughlin (scratch) won the gross with 35 points. 
The final Monday open for 2012 will take place on Bank Holiday Monday. 
The open three-ball continues through until next April. The format is teams of three.

Doonbeg GAA
The 10th annual Doonbeg GAA classic was held at Doonbeg links at the weekend when the winners were Johnny Igoe, Pat O’Malley, John Maguire and Maurice Mangan with 89 points from Noel McMahon, Timmy and Michael Killeen and Maurice Power on 88 points.
In third spot were David Tubridy, Pat Cotter, Hugh McNally and Sean Neylon on 87 points followed by Seamus Griffin, Seanie Moloney, Kieran Golden and Diarmuid Griffin, also on 87 points.
The longest drive was won by David Tubridy, while John Maguire won the prize for nearest-the-pin.

Haven Arms
THE Haven Arms Society in Kilrush held its first outing last week to the local course.  The winner was Brian Scanlan with 37 points from Gerry Duffy on 35 and Billy Clarke on 34. Ann Brennan won the ladies’ section with 30 points.

Pitch and Putt
The winners of the two-ball scramble at Clare Road on Sunday were Marty Fawl and Kevin Woods from Tommy Kelly and Tony Clancy.
There will be club competitions this Bank Holiday Weekend.
