East Clare captains elected for 2013

THE winners of the 15-hole mixed competition at East Clare were Jim Greene and Mary Collins with 36 points, while the men’s turkey competition winner was Michael B Noonan with 35 points.

 

In the men’s seniors’ outing on Tuesday the winners were Eamon Long, Mick Ryan and Kieran Gibbons from Bill Cullen, Frank Cox and Michael Drew with third spot filled by Jim Greene, John Brett and Oliver Quigney.

The men’s seniors’ Thursday competition was won by Martin Kelly, Jimmy Nagle and Charles Stuart from John Walsh, Conor Tuohy and Jim Greene with third spot filled by Gerry O’Brien, John Brett and Jack Manly.

In the ladies’ seniors outing the winners were Mary Hogan, Bernie Bohan and Pat Williams from Pauline Nugent, Mary Collins and Mary Bugler. Joint third were Bríd Hayes, Marie Moloney, Mary Joe Minogue and
Georgina Wright, Nancy Starr and Ina Reddan.

Following the recent annual general meetings of both the men’s and ladies’ clubs, the new officers have now taken over the roles for the coming year.

Mary Collins is the ladies’ captain for 2013 and her vice-captain is Catherine Murphy. Derek Kenny has taken over as men’s captain and his vice-captain is Dave Condren. Both captains will have their drive-in on Sunday, December 16 at 12. The annual general meeting of the joint club takes place on Wednesday December 12 at 8.00 p.m.

Kilrush
THE winners of the men’s seniors’ outing at Kilrush last Wednesday were PJ Maher, Leo Harvey and Michael Hemmings from Tom Coffey, Noel Thornton and Barry Taylor with third place filled by Tom Clarke, Denis Hassett and Sean Moran.
Brian Scanlan was the winner of the weekly singles with 29 points. The weekly singles competition will run from Sunday to Saturday inclusive and re-entry is allowed.
The annual general meeting of the men’s and joint committees will take place next Thursday at the clubhouse. The men’s meeting starts at 7.30pm with the joint committee AGM at 8pm.

Lahinch
LAST week’s ladies’ turkey Stableford competition at Lahinch (championship course) was won by Jean Basheer (13) with 30 points from Niamh Whelan (10) who had 28 points.
The winner of Saturday’s men’s singles competition was Stephen Hennessy (5) with 43 points from Richard Meaney (15) with 40 points with third spot filled by Paul O’Brien (5) with 39 points.
In the ladies’ turkey fourball on Saturday, the winners were Ann Vaughan and Connie Fahy with 46 points.
Sunday’s men’s scotch foursomes Stableford was won by Paudie Fitzmaurice (11) and Eamon Ryan (14) with 37 points.
The winners of the mixed scotch foursomes Stableford competition on Sunday were Tom Holly (20) and Mary O’Brien (20) with 41 points.

Shannon
THE men’s 15-hole singles Stableford competition at Shannon at the weekend was won by Brian Quinn with 40 points from Kieran Considine on 37 and Patrick Griffin on 37 with Ed Hickey winning the gross with 33 points.

Spanish Point
THE annual general meeting of the parent club at Spanish Point took place last Saturday night in the clubhouse and was attended by almost 70 members.
All reports from 2012 were well received with the treasurer’s report showing the club in a strong position despite the difficulties currently experienced by many clubs throughout the country.
Outgoing president, Paddy Cleary chaired the meeting and various motions were presented and discussed. The following officers and committee were elected for 2013. Sexton; ex-officio, Noel McMahon; lady captain, Helen Sullivan; vice-lady captain, Kathleen Twomey; ex officio, Nuala Kilroy; trustees Seamus Cleary, Sean Tracey, Denis Gallery; men’s club secretary, Martin Glenny; lady’s club secretary, Maura O’Boyle; committee, Valerie Shannon, Micheál Hehir, Eric Murrihy.
The seniors’ open played on Tuesday was won by Gerry Meade (17) with 38 points and the turkey competition last weekend was a team-of-four scramble in stroke format and was won by Tom Hehir (6), Micheál Hehir (13), Bernie O’Halloran (19) and Martin Casey (19). This weekend the annual Christmas hamper competition will take place and timesheets are in the clubhouse.

Ennis
ENNIS seniors held a three-ball scramble last week when the winners were Michael Considine, Terry Hughes and Sean O’Gorman from Tony Kehoe, Sean Fitzpatrick and Frank White. In third spot were Pádraig Ryan, Ollie Kenneally Frank Landy and Conor Murphy followed by Michael Cummins, Michael Butler and Tom Pender. Fifth spot was filled by John Guilfoyle, Seamus D’Arcy and Johnny Cullinan, with Peadar Cosgrove, Michael Carmody and Tom Purcell in sixth position.
The winners of the turkey fourball at the weekend were John McInerney and Karol Lynch with 49 points from Noel Casey senior and Noel Ryan junior who had a similar score. In third spot with 47 points were Liam McCannon and Dave Pender followed by Peader McMahon and Brian Dillon with 46 points, Tony Maher and Michael Cummins with 45 points
Richard Keane and Dave Passman with 45 points.

Gort
IN the men’s 18-hole singles Stableford at Gort at the weekend, the winner was Kieran Reidy (19) with 43 points from John Rodgers (8) with 42 points. Eamonn Morrissey (5) with 35 points won the gross. There will be a similar competition this weekend.
In the ladies’ 13-hole singles Stableford Christmas mini hampers competition, the winner was Sara Broderick (21) 30 points from Gabrielle Warnock (23) with 29 points.
This week, the ladies will have their Christmas party at 5pm on Sunday.

Woodstock
THE winner of the weekly seniors’ competition, played over 14 holes, at Woodstock was Eugene Phillips with 32 points form Michael Nugent on  29 points. The winners in the club singles hampers competition at Woodstock at the weekend were Pat Keane (9) in the 0-12 handicap category with 43 points and Dermot O’Neill (14) in the 13 and over handicap category with 44 points.

Dromoland
SEAMUS McEnery won the weekend singles competition at Dromoland with 41 points from Nicky Duggan on a similar score with third spot frilled by Brian Hickey with 40 points. Gordon O’Neill won the junior section with 34 points.
The turkey competition will continue until this Sunday.
Entries are now been taken for the winter league.

Portumna
THERE was no competition at Portumna at the weekend due to bad weather.
The open three-ball winners for November were John Harte (7), Philip Harte (15) and Gerry Fahy (16) with 49 points from JP McLoughlin (scratch), Matt Donoghue (8) and Ger Brehony (14)  with 48 points. The winners of the visitors’ section were Noel Casey (Ring Of Kerry) (18), Trevor Melbourne (16), Anthony Darcy (Mountain View) (14) with 48 points.
The three ball continues each month until April 2013. The final is on Saturday, May 4.
At the ladies’ AGM last week, Pauline McEvoy was elected the lady captain for 2013. The president is Suzanne Corcoran.
The final fling and men’s hampers competition take place this weekend.

Inagh-Kilnamona
THE Inagh-Kilnamona society will have its final outing of the year this Saturday at Spanish Point where the tee is reserved from 9am. The competition format will be a three-ball scramble.

Doonbeg Society
DOONBEG society members had an outing to Lahinch Castle Course last Sunday last when the winner was Seanie Moloney from Seamus Griffin with third spot filled by Diarmuid O’Donnell. The nines were won by Tom O’Dea and Maurice Mangan while the ladies winner was Ann Carrick.
