Duggan’s goals see Flannan’s into quarters

St Flannan’s 2-9   West Clare Colleges 2-5

St Flannan’s progressed to round two of the Munster Colleges U-15A Football (Corn Ui Mhorain) Championship when they accounted for West Clare Colleges at Hennessy Park in Miltown on Wednesday.
Two goals from Darragh Duggan early in the second half proved decisive in steering the Ennis college through to the quarter-finals, where they will play Colaiste na Sceilge or St Brendan’s from Kerry who play today, Thursday.
St Flannan’s held a one point lead at the break when the score was 0-6 to 1-1 and those early second-half goals helped them extend their lead which they held to the finish.
Jack Morrissey and Sean Crowley were the goalscorers for the West Clare Colleges while Daniel Cleary kicked three points with Dara Bohannon and Stephen Sheehan also kicking points.
Darragh Duggan, Sean Kennedy, Adam Cassidy, Hayden Starr and Eoin Keane impressed for the winners.

Corn Uí Mhuiri

For the first time ever, there will be three Clare teams in the Munster Colleges Senior A Football Championship (Corn Uí Mhuiri) this year, the opening rounds of which are set for Wednesday and Thursday, October 10 and 11.
West Clare Colleges will travel to Glin to play Killorglin on Wednesday when St Flannan’s will be in Abbeyfeale to play Coláiste na Sceilge. Both games are scheduled for 1.30pm.
Twenty-four hours later North Clare colleges will make their debut in the senior competition when they travel to Ballybricken in Limerick to play Clonmel at 1.30pm.
The competition is on a league basis and West Clare are in Group A along with Killorglin, Macroom and Rochestown. The North Clare outfit are in Group 2 with Clonmel, West Limerick Colleges and PS Chorca Dhuibhne (Dingle). St Flannan’s are in a three-team group with Colaiste na Sceilge and Colaiste Chriost Rí.
Two teams qualify from each group for the quarter-finals.
In senior B football (Corn an Uachtarain) St Caimin’s will play Midleton in Rathleake on Wednesday at 1.30pm while Ennistymon CBS will play Mallow at Clarina on the same day at 1.30pm.
In the senior C football championship (Corn an Runai) Kilrush will play Cashel at Rathbane on Monday at 1pm.
A number of U-15 football games are down for decision next week and these involve Clare schools St Caimin’s, St Anne’s (Killaloe), Rice College and Kilkee.
