Duggan shines for Magpies

Clarecastle 1-15
Sixmilebridge 0-12

Clarecastle accounted for Sixmilebridge in their Minor A Hurling game at Clarecastle on Wednesday evening. Two members of the county minor hurling team had a major influence on this game, with Clarecastle’s Bobby Duggan scoring nine points and the ’Bridge’s Jamie Shannahan contributing all but one point of his side’s total.

Clarecastle led 1-8 to 0-6 at the break, the goal coming in the 19th minute from full-forward Stephen Ward. David Murphy had the ball in the Clarecastle net in the 13th minute but Jim Hickey judged the Sixmilebridge full-forward was in the square.
Sixmilebridge were lucky not to be further behind at this stage, the Magpies forwards guilty of some poor shooting. In the second half, the ’Bridge threatened to come back, with Shannahan now at centre-forward winning a lot of ball.
However, he got little support from the other attackers. Once Clarecastle switched the hard-working Mickey Casey to midfield, the supply to Shannahan was stopped. Eoin Flynn had a great chance of a goal but he shot wide from close range in the 16th minute. Duggan was winning great ball and setting up many scores for the Magpies. He was fouled in the last minute and referee Jim Hickey awarded a penalty. Duggan’s shot went over the bar to give Clarecastle a merited six-point victory,
For Clarecastle, Sean Lynch had a fine hour in goal while Mickey Casey, Stephen Ward, Mark McGuane and Bobby Duggan, who was outstanding, played well. Jamie Shannahan was the best player for the losers while Mickey Lynch and Brian Carey had their moments.

Inagh-Kilnamona 5-10
Doora Barefield 1-15

Inagh-Kilnamona secured another win in the Minor B Championship when they overcame Doora-Barefield in Gurteen on Friday evening. Inagh-Kilnamona started the better but a goal from Aaron Landy midway through the first half brought the home side back into the game. It was Doora-Barefield who finished the half the stronger, going in at half-time 1-10 to 2-6 ahead.
The second half proved to be a very close encounter, with both Barry Keating for Inagh-Kilnamona and David Conroy for Doora-Barefield getting some fine scores.
David Conroy and Aaron Landy tried hard for Doora Barefield while Barry Keating, Jamesie McConnigley and Kevin Hehir did well for the winners.
