Drop in Live Register figures

FEWER than 10,000 people are signing on for unemployment benefits weekly in Clare, the lowest number on the Live Register in the past six months.

Figures from the CSO show that 9,869 are drawing unemployment assistance in Clare, down by almost 300 on the same period in 2011 and down by 190 since the beginning of March.

The largest monthly decline in the Live Register was recorded at the social welfare office in Ennis. A total of 5,535 signed on, down by 76 from the previous month. Of that number, 823 are under 25 years of age.

The numbers signing on in the welfare offices were also down at in Ennistymon (1,548), Tulla (1,425) and Kilrush (1,361). Emigration remains a factor in these statistics.
