Ballyea                1-11
Kilmaley              0-13

A magnificent point from a 35m line ball with the last puck of the game gave Ballyea a merited one point win over Kilmaley in this division 1 B tie at Kilmaley on Sunday evening.

The win guaranteed Ballyea their place in the division for next season but ended any hope Kilmaley had of progressing to the knock out stage.

It was a win Ballyea deserved as they had created the greater number of chances and were guilty of a lot of wides in the second half.

At the end of an evenly contested first half, Kilmihil led by the minimum margin, 0-7 to 0-6.

An indication of the home side’s concern was the introduction of inter-county panelist Diarmuid McMahon for the second half. the sides were level three times in the third quarter and Kilmaley had just taken a one point lead with ten minutes to go when Eanna McInerney struck for the game’s only goal to put the visitors ahead. Shane O’Neill added a pointed free and three points separated the team as the full time whistle approached.

With time almost up, Kilmaley stormed back and points from Conor Neylon, Brian McMahon and Colin McGuane tied up the game. Then, following a clash involving a number of players on the sideline, Ballyea won a line ball and Gearoid O’Connell pointed to seal victory.

Ballyea:
Shane Harkin; James Murphy, Paul Flanagan, Frankie Griffin; Joe Neylon, Cathal Doohan, Paddy O’Connell; Gearoid O’Connell, Brian Murphy; Niall Deasy, Kevin Sheehan, Niall Keane; Eanna McInerney, Shane O’Neill, Francie Nealon.
