Doora-Barefield enjoy comprehensive victory

Doora-Barefield 1-19   Sixmilebridge 3-4

Doora-Barefield had a deserved win over Sixmilebridge in O’Garney Park on Wednesday evening in the U-16A hurling championship.

Scoring points from all angles, the visitors were 1-11 to 0-2 ahead at the break with a goal, an impressive solo effort from centre-forward Brian Guillyfoyle, who was causing all sorts of difficulties for the hosts.
Doora-Barefield went further ahead in the first quarter of the second half with points from Andrew Whelan and Conor O’Brien.
A goal from a 30m free by Eoin Flynn in the 45th minute and another from Robbie Corry in the 48th minute reduced the lead to six points but Doora upped their game once again, with some fine score taking from play.
Eoin Flynn for Sixmilebridge blasted to the net again in the dying minute but it wasn’t enough to prevent Doora-Barefield from strengthening their bid to add the U-16A title to the U-15A they won in 2011.
For the winners, Eoin Harahan at centre-back was unbeatable, Conor O’Brien at midfield and Brain Guillyfoyle at centre-forward also did well. For the ’Bridge, Ronan and Conor Cahill and Cathal Lynch were best.

Tulla/Bodyke 1-14   Clooney/Quin 1-8

Tulla/Bodyke collected their first points of the U-16B campaign on Thursday evening in round two of the championship.
Despite the wet and miserable conditions, both teams did their best to serve up some good hurling.
The winners looked comfortable in the first half and were not flattered by their 1-6 to 0-4 half-time lead, with the goal coming from the very sharp full-forward, Colin Corbett.
The home side took the game to the combo in the third quarter and only a goal separated the sides after Alan Culligan had fired a ground strike to the net.
However, that was as good as it got for Clooney/Quin as the East Clare amalgamation regained control to claim a six-point victory.
Best for the winners were Seamus Quigley, Daniel Vaughan, Brian Fahy and Colin Corbett, who was their main scoring threat.
Clooney/Quin had good performances from their top scorer, Conor Grogan, Eanna Barry, David Sheehy and Alan Culligan.
