Doonbeg tussle for underage board chair?

Nominations closed on Wednesday for positions on the executive of Bórd na n-Óg Peil. The AGM will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 8pm in the West County Hotel, Ennis.
At the time of going to press on Wednesday evening, all outgoing officers had been nominated although board secretary Niomh Madigan was expecting additional nominations and motions from clubs.
Outgoing vice-chairman John Smith has been nominated for the post of chairman. Billy Archbold is to step down as he has served five years, which is the maximum term. However, nobody had been nominated by 5pm on Wednesday for the vice-chairperson’s role.
There could, however, be an all-Doonbeg joust for the position of chairman if the club’s adult county board delegate Michael Neenan was nominated by Wednesday night’s deadline.
Neenan told The Clare Champion that if he was nominated, he would consider the situation.
“I’d consider it and I’d see how much support I’d have out there. I’d need clubs to get in behind me before I’d see would I go for the position. It does need a radical shake up,” he said of Bórd na n-Óg Peil.
Bórd na n-Óg Peil secretary Niomh Madigan said she was expecting a few more nominations and motions.
“Hopefully, a few more might come in before the end of the evening but there have been nominations and there have been motions sent already,” she said.
It is expected the recommendations of the recent underage football forum will be discussed at Tuesday week’s AGM.
“This is the clubs’ opportunity to speak and to discuss their issues. As far as the forum recommendations are concerned, there is a timeframe on them and that is very important. The most important thing is that clubs are represented on the night. Their attendance is crucial,” Niomh Madigan reiterated.
