The football leagues from division 1 to 5 were finalised at the weekend with league final spots and semi-final spots confirmed. The remaining divisions 6 to 8 have a number of ties left to enact in the coming fortnight. The top team after each league is automatically into the final with second and third playing in a semi-final. The winner of this semi-final except for division 1 is promoted and gains a place in the respective league final.
In the future ticketing Cusack Cup St Breckans are in the final for the second year as reigning champions on 11 points. Clondegad on 9 points finished second and will have home advantage against Ennistymon who ended third on 7 points. At the other end of the table it is relegation heartbreak for Doonbeg on 5 points with Corofin on 4 points facing Garry Cup for 2024.
It was delight for St Joseph’s Miltown who gained promotion to the Cusack Cup for 2024 with success over St Joseph’s Doora Barefield on Monday. As second prize Barefield will host Cooraclare in the Garry Cup semi-final. Sadly, for Wolfe Tones and Cratloe who both experienced modest campaigns they face division 3 league football next season.
Kilrush Shamrocks had reason to celebrate their season to date as the Division 3 league final awaits Daniel Ryan’s men. They finished top of the table with 12 points, one point ahead of Ennistymon’s second string with Ballyvaughan on 10 points. Ennistymon and Ballyvaughan will play in the semi-final with promotion and a meeting with Kilrush Shamrocks on offer for the winner. Shannon Gaels on 4 points and St Senan’s Kilkee had little reason to enjoy the division and they now face division four league next season.
Division Four was a coronation stroll for the men from the Burren Michael Cusacks. 14 points from 7 games as they were promoted before the final day’s action. Liscannor who are reigning Junior A champions finished second on 11 points and third place fell to Kilmurry Ibrickane. In the semi-final, Liscannor will host Kilmurry Ibrickane. Kilrush Shamrocks who are promoted to Garry Cup will witness division 5 fare for their second string and will be joined by Eire-og, Inis in the relegation trapdoor.
Clondegad are back up to division four action for the coming league season and can look forward to the divisional final with 11 points tallied up. Corofin who suffered Cusack Cup relegation can now with 10 points take on third place St Joseph’s Miltown on 8 points for league final slot and promotion. It is division 6 action for Clooney/Quin and Doonbeg for next season.
The remaining division 6 -8 are not yet completed. In Division 6 Cratloe are promoted. Wolfe Tones, St Breckans, Clarecastle and Parteen/Meelick are in the hunt for the two semi final slots. Lissycasey and Corofin are relegated to Division 7 for next year.
Division 7 is a tightly contested group. Kildysart are on 8 points after 6 games and finished their series. St Joseph’s Miltown and St Joseph’s Miltown are also on 8 points with one game left to play. Michael Cusacks and St Breckans are relegated at this stage to Division 8 league football.
Finally, in division 8 Parteen/Meelick look safe for promotion with Cooraclare, Kilmihil and Clondegad fighting it out for the two semi-final positions for a league final slot and promotion.
