Lissycasey 1-7
Ennistymon 0-8
CENTRE-back, Cathal Doohan, and substitute, Conor Finnucane, played key roles as Lisycasey extended their unbeaten run in this season’s Cusack Cup when they defeated Ennistymon by two points at Lissycasey on Saturday evening.
A strong wind blew directly down the pitch towards the dressing room end and players also had to contend with a heavy drizzle throughout. Ennistymon had first use of the wind and they raced into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead with scores from Brian Conway (free), Joe Dowling (two frees and one from play) and Willie Murphy before Barry Lynch, making his Cusack Cup debut, opened the home side’s account against a side trained by his father, Colin.
The game’s crucial score came shortly before Michael Talty sounded the half-time whistle. Francis Hayes found fellow county senior panellist Niall Kelly down the left wing and his pass put David Considine through for the game’s only goal.
The visitors finished the half with a brace of points from Dowling (free) and John McInerney to lead 0-7 to 1-1. Ennistymon scored first in the second half when Joey Rouine converted a free but from here on Lissycasey had the better of matters.
Martin O’Connor, who had earlier helped Kilmaley to a good victory in the Clare Champion Cup replaced the injured Alan Nagle before points from Sean Hayes and David Considine left two between the sides.
Midway through the second half, goalkeeper Joe Hayes landed a 45’ to leave the minimum between the sides.
At this time, Lissycasey brought in Conor Finnucane to the attack. He had earlier played for the Clare minors against Kerry in the Munster Championship before, together with Clare minor goalkeeper Killian Normoyle, dashing back from Tralee to take their places on the Lissycasey bench.
Shortly after his introduction, Finnucane took a pass from David Considine and landed the equaliser and he followed with two more excellent scores to seal a merited win for the home side.
Man of the match was Lissycasey centre-back Cathal Doohan and he got great support from Joe Hayes, Cyril Sheehan, the Moran brothers and substitute Finnucane.
Brian McDonagh, Lawrence Healy and Enda Ralph worked hard for the visitors.

Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, the visitors managed to go to the break with a lead of three points, 0-8 to 1-2.
Miltown made a bright start to the second half but they failed to translate this onto the scoreboard and three wides in the opening three minutes proved costly.
Later in the half, a superb save by the town side’s goalkeeper Colin Burke denied the home side who failed to capitalise when the rebound broke to Desi Mollohan, whose first-time effort rebounded off the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
Éire Óg sealed their win in injury time when substitute Darren O’Meara finished off a move that started on their own goal line when Liam Corry won possession.
