Digital speed signs coming to Cusack Road

THE success of the installation of digital speed signs on the Tulla Road has led to an expansion of the project, with new signs now in place on the Cusack Road. Residents in the area are said to be “delighted” with the new signs. According to Councillor Mary Howard,

“These speed signs, which have been credited with reducing the speed of traffic on the Tulla Road, come in at a cost of €5,500 each, which is extremely good value for money.”

Recent analysis carried out by Clare County Council found that the average speed of cars using the Tulla Road has fallen since the signs were installed in 2011.

“The location of the signs are decided in consultation with the gardaí and the residents of Cusack Road are delighted with the installation of the signs and have already noticed an immediate reduction of the speed of cars. These signs are very welcome as the Cusack Road is a very busy access route to the town and connects with the N85 Western Relief Road,” added Councillor Howard.

“These units solar-powered road signs operate by utilising LEDs, which are far brighter than conventional light bulbs – meaning that visibility is much clearer for road users, therefore making the roads safer.

“These extra-bright LEDs also last for a considerable length of time, consuming remarkably less energy in comparison with their conventional counterparts.”
