Development squads warm up

Clare U-15s         4-7    North Kerry U-15s     0-15
Last week in Kilrush, a Clare U-15 selection took on their North Kerry counterparts. The Kerry team had players drawn from the Ghaeltacht, Killarney and Listowel region.

The Clare squad of 48 players have been in training since June 4 and this game gave the management team an opportunity to take a look some of the players involved against a quality opposition. This was the third game for the U-15 players who are competing for a squad place for the tournament in Cork on July 6.
The North Kerry squad, who won the Munster Jim Power U-14 tournament in 2010, played against the wind in the first half and were quick off the mark to race into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead. Once Clare stopped admiring their Kerry opposites they notched 1-2 without reply with home town marksman, Liam Madigan scoring 0-2 and Conall O hAnifein bagging the goal. North Kerry were playing the brand of fast ball and intelligent running off the ball associated with Kerry football and restored their lead to go in at halftime leading 0-10 to 1-4.
Playing against the breeze in the second half Clare struggled to make use of their hard won possession while Kerry added two more points. However half time substitute, Keith Sexton, lining out at full forward, brought Clare back into the game with a punched goal from a Liam Madigan free kick to leave just two points between the sides heading into the final ten minutes.
Over this 10-minute spell Clare took the game to Kerry and out scored the green and gold 2-3 to 0-3 with Liam Madigan and Cornor Finucane raising the green flags to leave the final score Clare 4-7 to Kerry 0-15.

North Kerry U-16s     3-11    Clare U-16s          0-9

Last week a Clare U-16 selection took on a North Kerry U-16 squad in Killimer. The game was evenly enough early on, but come half time the home side trailed 2-5 to 0-5, having played with the strong wind at their backs.
The second half saw Kerry put Clare under sustained pressure and their slick inter-play created 1-6 to add the their lead. The concession of two soft goals over the course of the game didn’t help the home sides cause and while Clare battled to the end the final whistle Kerry ended up winning by 11 points.
