Deadline approaches for Glinsk songwriters contest

IT’S time again for songwriters to put pen to paper for the 2010 Glinsk Song Contest. The contest is preparing for its 23rd annual song contest, which has proved itself as a significant event for songwriters throughout the country.

This is a contest that attracts aspiring songwriters from all counties and an increasing number of overseas entries.
Una Healy, who has twice won at the North Galway based contest, is now enjoying success with the group The Saturdays. Established songwriters including Niall Toner, Denis Allen and Charlie McGettigan have taken honours in Glinsk in previous years, but the contest has also been won on a number of occasions by writers who were presenting their very first song.
The deadline for entries for this year’s event is April 2. Thirteen songs will be chosen for the final on Sunday, July 4, where songs will be performed live accompanied by the Glinsk Song Contest Orchestra.
Full details on the competition are available by writing to: Glinsk Song Contest, Glinsk, via Castlerea, Galway or email glinsk@eircom.net. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.glinsk.com/songcontest.
