Cut in county council advertising

CLARE County Council has cut the amount it spends on advertising in both of the last two years and plan to make further savings in 2011.

At the January meeting of the local authority, Councillor Brian Meaney introduced a motion asking for details on the costs incurred on advertising in recent years.
A written response from senior executive officer, corporate services, Michael McNamara stated, “Statutory notices are advertised on local and national newspapers. In the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, Clare County Council used the advertising agency Javelin Group to place advertisements in the print media. The council does not differentiate between statutory and non-statutory advertisements. The total amount paid to Javelin Group in respect of each of these years is as follows: 2008, €163,994; 2009, €76,037 and 2010, €66,675.
“During late 2010, the National Procurement Service ran a procurement process on behalf of public bodies for the placement of state advertising in the print media. Brindley Advertising were the successful tenderer and Clare County Council will be availing of their services in 2011. The terms of this agreement offers significant savings to the council.”
