Cusack’s penalty proves decisive

Second Division

Coole FC 0   Ruan United 1

IN this second-division clash, Ruan took the three points to go level with Coole at second place in the league table. Thiago Morais flashed a shot wide of the post on 10 minutes and then Ruan’s keeper made a fine save from a Wayne Walsh shot from the edge of the box five minutes later. As the game approached half-time, Ruan were awarded a penalty and Barry Cusack fired home the all-important score.

Ruan looked dangerous in the second half as Coole pushed for the leveller. Coole’s pressure looked like paying dividends as chances were being created. Paddy Donovan headed against the post and then he struck the crossbar with a looping shot. Then from a Dave Cahill corner, a powerful Greg Lally header was cleared off the line. Ruan defended well and held on for the win.
