Cuine Boy targeting Ennis-Clarecastle

The connections of the Patrickswell-owned Cuine Boy are targetting the Ennis-Clarecastle coursing meeting next weekend for more Champion Stakes points.

Already a winner of cups at Mallow and Clonmel-Kilsheelan, the son of Kyles James-Garbally Glory will be 6-4 favourite to land a hat-trick of cups this season when he contests the HJ Murphy Memorial All Age Stake at the Manus venue.

Trained by Michael Enright for Tony Quinn, he won the Rakes of Mallow All-aged Stake at Mallow when beating the Carrigaline-owned Fleetwod Don in the final.

At the Clonmel-Kilsheelan fixture he had a length-and-a-half to spare in the final against India Rio in the final of the Eddie Kennedy Memorial Cup. Last season, the Mitchelstown-owned India Rio won a trial stake in Rathcormac and reached the last eight in Clonmel.

In his first round buckle at Ennis-Clarecastle, Cuine Boy goes to slips with Vacume Cool Dudfe, who is a 6-1 chance with bookmaker Denny Gould. They will be the first pair in action in the cup. Cuine Boy won a trial stake at the Galbally meeting last season. He beat Jeru Cavendish in the second round and went out to Blueview Sam in the next round.

Another fancied runner in the top half at Ennis-Clarecastle will be Cuddly Man, who won Corn Caislean All-age Stake at Ardpatrick-Kilfinane for trainer Michael O’Donovan and members of the Jammy Dodger syndicate from the Dromina area. He was a trial stake winner last year at Galway-Oranmore.
Cuine Boy and Cuddly Man met in the first round of the Boylesports Derby in Clonmel when the Patrickswell-owned brindled came out on top.

Among short odds in the bottom half will be Fortfield River, who won the Killimer-Kilrush Trial Stake last season and went out to Skellig Wish in the first round in Clonmel. This season he won the Swanky Bar All-age Cup at Listowel for owner, James McMahon, Ballybunnion.
Anthony Daly and members of the Rumour Has It syndicate will also fancy their chances with the Gerry Holian-trained Uptown Abu, who was a Derby qualifier from Roscommon last season. Hopes were high for another Derby win for Clarecastle but he was a first-round casualty to the Glin-owned Solid Monk.

Barrack Becky is another coming to Ennis-Clarecastle in search of more points for Clonmel. Owned inTourafulla by Shane Curtin, Barrack Becky has already won a cup from the regional meeting and has been installed by Denny Gould as 5-2 favourite to win the Coote Family All-age Bitch Stake at Ennis-Clarecastle. Others well worth looking out for are Nenagh Cup winner Liveroad Babe, Jeru Melody, who reached the semi-final in Killimer-Kilrush and Awe and Wonder, who won the trial stake at Ennis-Clarecastle last season for John Flynn and the Flynn syndicate from Tarbert and reached the last eight in Clonmel. This year, she was beaten in the final at Listowel but went one better at Knockgraffon when taking the cup.

With quite a lot of useful runners in the Oaks Trial Stake and the reserve Derby, the Manus venue should see a lot of action before the destination of the cups are decided. With the Working Members and Surplus Stakes on the card, Manus has a lot going for it this weekend. Placed at the disposal of the club by Pat McInermey, the Manus venue has given a great uplift to Ennis-Clarecastle.

Coursing gets underway at 11.30am on Saturday and Sunday and the officials in charge will be Bernard Goold, judge and Denis Crowley, slipper.
