County Fleadh time in Kilfenora


THE Clare Fleadh begins this weekend in Kilfenora and continues to Monday, June 21. The organising branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Kilfenora Comhaltas, is working hard to ensure a great weekend of traditional music.The event will bring 1,500 competitors to the village taking part in traditional music sessions with musicians of all ages and instruments of all sizes and competitions for all abilities.
The festivities will commence on Sunday with a sponsored walk followed by refreshments and the official opening of the Clare Fleadh in the Burren Centre.
On Wednesday next, there will be a session in Linnane’s Pub from 9pm with past members of the Kilfenora Céilí Band providing ceol agus craic. Following this, there will be sessions in Vaughan’s and Nagle’s Pubs. Thursday will see a set dancing céilí with the Four Courts Céilí Band in Vaughan’s Barn. The weekend begins at 1pm on Friday with a lunchtime concert with Jackie Daly, Ado Morris, Henry Benagh and Bernadette McCarthy in the Burren Centre.
Friday evening will feature a céilí in Kilfenora Hall with Star of Munster Céilí Band at 9.30pm at the same time as sessions in the village’s pubs.
The traditional fleadh competitions will take place from 11am on Saturday in the Kilfenora primary school and various venues around the village.
Following this, the set and céilí dancing competitions will take place in the hall. From 10pm, there will be a céilí in Vaughan’s Barn with Tulla Céilí Band.
On Sunday the traditional fleadh competitions will commence in venues around the village from 9.30am. There will be outdoor family entertainment from 3pm and the Kilfenora Céilí Band will take to the stage in the square from 5pm to 7pm. The evening will draw to a close with sessions in all the Kilfenora pubs and a céilí in Vaughan’s Barn at 9pm.
The Clare Fleadh festivities will culminate on Monday, June 21 with traditional sessions in all Kilfenora pubs from 3pm until late.
