The annual Scariff Show takes place on Saturday, September 3, at the Scariff Show Grounds.
There is something for everyone at the event, with a range of horse classes, from Best Irish Draught-type Mare to the Yearling Filly All-Ireland Championship, pony classes, showjumping, a sheep section and a dog section.
The Scariff Show doesn’t just cater for farmers and horse breeders, as there will be a range of contests across a range of disciplines including the best in home baking, arts and crafts, roots and vegetables, flowers and amateur photography. Children will be well entertained, with special competitions, amusements, vintage machinery and much more.
The show’s charity partner on the day is the Irish Wheelchair Association and the focus will be on their big fundraising event this year.
The show will also be welcoming many crafts makers to this year’s event in the designated Year of Craft.
It is a sad occasion too this year as the show says goodbye to their patron, Fr Pat Sexton, as he retires from Scariff parish.
Show committee member Joanne Allen said, “Fr Sexton was always a welcome visitor to the show and has shown great encouragement and support to the show committee over the years. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”
The Corbett family from Moynoe in Scariff have presented a beautiful perpetual cup, The Michael Corbett Memorial Cup, to the show committee this year in memory of Michael Corbett, one of the founding members of the show society, who sadly passed away last year.
The cup will be presented to the champion mare owner on show day. Tom Allen, chairman of Scariff Show, said, “It is an honour and privilege to receive this cup and it is a fitting tribute to Michael.”
The Scariff Show is inviting one and all to participate and support this year’s agricultural show but reminds the public that entries must be in by this Thursday.
All enquiries can be made by contacting Joanne Allen on 087 3667711 or www.scariffshow.com.
