THERE will be a big emphasis on family occasion at Corofin on Saturday when the village plays hosts to the popular North Clare Show.

The 62nd show promises to be one of the best yet thanks to the hard-working committee, led by chairperson Joe Killeen; long time secretary, Mary McMahon and treasurer, Gerard Hanrahan. They, along with the other committee members, are working flat out to put the final touches to this year’s extended programme, details of which are available from Mary McMahon at 065 6837795.

The show has expanded over the years with jumping events in the Parish Field among the main attractions. Included in the jumping are 21 competitions that will be held in three arenas.  The pony jumping will get underway at 9.30am with the horse programme starting with 60/70 Sportsman at 10am. The 90cms to 120cms events will start at 1pm.  Riders from far afield, including some international competitors, will be providing stiff opposition for the locals.

The GAA hall at Páirc Finne in Market Street is the venue for classes for poultry, eggs, farm produce, horticulture, home baking, home crafts, turf, as well as photography and art exhibits. Exhibits must be placed in the hall before 9am with judging taking place in the morning. The hall will open for viewing around 1pm.

Qualifiers to facilitate entry in All-Irelands will include The All-Ireland Domestic Arts Championship with the final at Boniconlon Show and the Odlums Home Baking Championship Finals.

The showing classes will be judged, overlooking the majestic Lough Atedaun, in the showing field in Kilvoydán, courtesy of George Edwards.

The judging will commence at 11.30am with the pony classes.  The horse classes will progress at 12noon, while the cattle judging will get underway with the commercial cattle classes at 1pm. The judging of the pedigree Limousin cattle will include qualifiers for the Irish Limousin Cattle Society All-Ireland RDS Champion of Champions Male Of The Year, Senior Female and Junior Female Of The Year.

Judging of the seven classes in the sheep section will be followed by the donkey judging at 2.30pm.
Entries will be taken from 1pm for the dog show. Corofin will play host to qualifiers for The All-Ireland Gun Dog Championship and The Puppy Parlour, Kenmare, Munster Dog Championship.
